Pinellas County Schools Funding

  • Community Forum - Federal Funding Freeze

    WHEN: THURSDAY, JULY 24 at 6 P.M.
WHERE: ADMINISTRATION BUILDING-CONFERENCE HALL AND LIVE ON YOUTUBE

Join us for a community forum on Thursday, July 24, where we’ll provide an overview of the funding freeze, recent state changes to our budget, and how these developments may impact students, families, and staff.

Why Your Voice Matters: Federal education grants — totaling $9 million for Pinellas County Schools (PCS), $400 million for the state of Florida — were unexpectedly frozen on June 30, just days before our new fiscal year began on July 1, leaving the district with no time to plan accordingly.

This short-notice impact on funding puts essential Pinellas County Schools’ programs at risk, including those that enhance the middle school experience, increase professional learning for teacher retention, and provide enrichment in the arts, athletics, and gifted programs.

Areas and amounts of federal funds that have been frozen for Pinellas County Schools:

    • Title II, Part A – Professional development and instructional coaching $3,518,394
    • Title III, Part A – English language instruction for multilingual learners $892,391
    • Title IV, Part A – Well-rounded education (enrichment), safe and healthy schools, and technology. $2,124,471
    • Title IV, Part B- (21st Century Learning Programs)- After-school and summer enrichment $970,904
    • Adult Education & Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IELCE) – Adult literacy and workforce readiness programs $1,406,851

Nationally, the amount of funds frozen is:

    • $6.8 billion United States
    • $400 million Florida
    • $9 million Pinellas County

Let’s talk about what this funding freeze means for our staff and students and how it impacts education.
